- How do I make a conference call?
It is now possible for up to 10 people to conference call with ineen on each ineen host! There are several ways to set up a conference call:
- The easiest way to do this is to turn on Auto-Answer [Press the AA button on the main Dial pad interface] and turn on Auto-conference [Press the AC button on the main Dial pad interface] and tell everyone to call you at a certain time.
Each call that comes in will automatically join your conference.
- You can also add the participants individually by clicking the CONF button on the main Dial pad interface when in a call with them.
NOTE: Distributed conferencing can increase the number conference participants and reduce the strain on any one conference host computer immensely! Each ineen user can add new participants to any conference call. Since each ineen user is capable of adding as many as 10 people the size of the conference could be huge. This is very handy when the conference attendees are concentrated in pockets all over the world. It could be that you want to conference with 5 users from Europe and 10 users from the US and 5 users from Canada. 3 ineen users could be the hosts for each pocket of users and then conference in the other host. E.g. The Europe ineen host conferences 5 users and then conferences 1 USA ineen conference host who has conferences in another USA host who in turn conferences in the Canadian host. Finally the European host is brough tinto the conference by the Canadian host. You now have 20 people in conference! This also helps reduce the strain put on any 1 conference host machine.

 |
- What do I need to use ineen?
In short: practically all home computers purchased within the last 2-3 years can run ineen and if you pick up a headset [and web camera if you want to take advantage of Video], you’re good to go!
- You need a PC with Windows 2000 or newer, a sound card (full-duplex is best), microphone (built-in or external) and speakers or headset.
|
 |
- What kind of headset or USB phone should I use?
You need a computer headset, not a telephone headset. A computer headset has two separate connectors – one for the microphone, and one for the speaker (some newer headsets connect via USB, these are typically a bit more expensive but in general quite good). Also make sure that the headset has a microphone. You can also buy a handset, just as long as it has two connectors so that it can be plugged into your computer. We recommend GN Netcom headsets for the best audio experience which are carried at most electronics retail outlets.
NOTE: If you don’t own a microphone, you may be able to use an existing pair of headphones as a temporary solution. Connect your extra headphones to the microphone input of your sound card and speak directly into the ear piece. We are not responsible for any damaged equipment so please try this at your own risk!
|
 |
- I am using a laptop with a built-in microphone and speakers, can I still use ineen?
Yes, we can this Speakerphone Mode. ineen has Acoustic Echo Cancellation which allows you to simply speak into your laptop and hear through your speakers. In noisy environments this might not be the best solution. You can certainly send instant messages at the very least, and if you don’t own a mic, you can try using a pair of headphones by plugging them into the microphone jack in your computer. Note that ineen is not responsible for any damage to your equipment, so try at your own risk!
|
 |
- I want to use a USB headset/phone or multiple sound cards. How do I do this?
If you use a USB headset or USB phone or use multiple sound cards, you can configure which device by running the Tuning Wizard. You can run the tuning wizard by Right-clicking on the main Dial pad window and selecting Tuning Wizard.

 |
- What are Open Standards and why does it matter?
An Open Standard is more than just a specification. The principles behind the
standard, and the practice of offering and operating the standard, are what make
the standard Open.
ineen follows the standards presented mostly by the IETF.
Proprietary technology, not unlike Skype, will not automatically work with "off the shelf" standards compliant equipment and solutions. ineen offers that flexibility. Proprietary technology like what is used in some other IM and VoIP applications, leave the user at the whim of the provider or vendor deploying that technology.
SIP [Session Initiation Protocol] is the leading protocol for open IP communications today. ineen uses SIP. The SIP community is made up of thousands of engineers and a great many organizations collaborating and working together to make the future of IP communications more open and accessible for everyone.
To learn more about Open Standards and SIP consider visiting these websites:
IETF SIP Working Group
Counterpath Solutions, inc.
ineen can be used to intercommunicate with other SIP networks some of which can be found on SIPindex.com
